Environment Committee

Mandate

The Committee plays an active role in encouraging sustainable business practices that incorporate economic, environmental and social factors into decision-making. It monitors and responds to environmental policy initiatives, positioning the Chamber as a responsible voice on critical issues, and supports technological innovation to solve current environmental challenges. The Environment Committee often meets jointly with the Natural Resources Committee.

Water management

  • Calgary as a municipal leader in water conservation
  • Water licenses
  • Subset of South Saskatchewan Regional Plan (ongoing consultations)

City of Calgary resource issues

  • Climate change, energy, land use and transportation strategies and planning (Plan It and Regional Plan)
  • Effectiveness of curbside recycling program

Oil and gas industry competitiveness

  • Monitor royalty regime changes
  • Government of Alberta Regulatory Enhancement Project
  • Value-added upgrading and diversification

Carbon management policy / strategy

  • Canadian policy and Canada-U.S. harmonization
  • Emissions pricing
  • Carbon capture and storage
