The Calgary Chamber of Commerce announced the 2009 Small Business Week Award winners at a gala celebration on Monday, October 19.
Kon-Strux Developments Inc. was honored as the 2009 GoForth Institute Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year and ICS Group Inc. (photo above) was named the 2009 RBC Royal Bank Small Business of the Year.
"The Chamber is thrilled to announce these two innovative organizations as recipients in their respective categories," says Heather Douglas, President & CEO, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. "The Committee faced a tough decision, testament to the progressive entrepreneurial community we have in the city of Calgary. We congratulate all of the finalists this year, and look forward to watching their businesses continue to thrive in the future."
Small Business Awards Gala Dinner
Celebrate the six nominees for the RBC Small Business of the Year Award and the GoForth Institute Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and be there when the winners are announced. The gala evening includes a champagne reception and dazzling meal.
Keynote Luncheon
Previous guest speakers have included the Hon. Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism; and Arlene Dickinson of Venture Communications (and one of CBC's Dragons on the Dragon's Den). Stay tuned for this year's guest.
A series of opportunities for small businesses to learn practical hands-on skills from the experts. Sessions in 2009 included a session with Revenue Canada, how to avoid fraud in your business presented by MNP, how to use social networking to get free advertising, and effective networking for small businesspeople.
Business After Hours
The monthly Business After Hours is the Chamber's premier networking event. The BAH during Small Business Week is always one of the best attended, with many booth and many visitors.
