The Calgary Chamber is committed to helping our members overcome their greatest business challenges.

One of the ways we do this is through our advocacy work. The Chamber has a policy and government affairs department that works closely with our members to identify areas in government policy that are creating headaches for business. We then develop solutions to these problems that policy makers can adopt to improve Calgary’s business environment. 

Last weekend, a number of our policy ideas were presented and passed as resolutions at the Alberta Chambers of Commerce Annual General Meeting. The Alberta Chambers regularly meets with Alberta MLAs to move forward policy ideas, so the passing of these resolutions signals that the voice of Calgary businesses are being given a powerful outlet from which to be heard.

In fact, of all the resolutions passed during the AGM – one-third came from the Calgary Chamber.

These policy ideas include everything from cutting Alberta’s small business tax from 3 per cent to 2 percent to keep more money in the pockets of entrepreneurs to improving the Temporary Foreign Worker Program so employers can find skilled workers to meet their labour shortages.
