Aboriginal workforce

The Aboriginal population in Alberta represents the largest source of untapped workers in the province. Aboriginal people make up about 5.8 per cent of Alberta’s population and are a fast-growing and youthful segment that could be used to fill the province’s forecasted skills shortage. It’s estimate that increasing Aboriginal employment rates to similar levels of the non-Aboriginal population could provide up to 14,000 additional workers for the provincial economy.
