Brian Bietz formed Bietz Resources Ltd. in 2003 in order to help resource companies navigate the often complex regulatory process, by providing specialist advice on process, environmental and stakeholder engagement issues. In 2006 Brian also formed Bow City Power Ltd. with a mission of developing new and environmentally sustainable power projects in southeastern Alberta.
Prior to this Dr. Bietz was a Board Member for 10 years with the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board; chair of the Natural Resources Conservation Board for five years and a general manger/senior environmental scientist with Stantec’s environmental group for eight.
Brian has been active in the Calgary Chamber of Commerce for a number of years, including 6 years as the chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee and was awarded Chair of the Year in 2014. He played a leadership role in the development of Chamber submissions to the Senate regarding changes to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and to the National Energy Board with respect to the Kinder Morgan Transmountain Pipeline application. He also co-authored a recent Chamber submission to the Calgary Herald regarding the provincial Royalty review.
In addition to his work with the Chamber Brian is a Member and past Director of the Alberta Chamber of Resources, a Member and past Director of the Energy Council of Canada and a Member, past Registrar and current Chair of the Discipline Committee of the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists. Since 1989 he has sat on an independent Environmental Advisory Committee to the Calgary Airport Authority and this year co-authored an analysis of the potential implications of Alberta’s new Climate Leadership Plan.
Brian and his wife of forty years are both Calgary natives. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the U. of Calgary and his Ph.D. in Ecology from Western University.
