Posted by: Alycia Lowdon on December 12, 2017

The Calgary Chamber of Commerce has been the city’s main connector of people, ideas and stories since 1891 and exists to help make the Calgary business community more successful. Over its 126-year history the Chamber has grown into an organization with over 1600 member businesses, consisting of over 400,000 employees, with an unwavering focus: to help your business be more successful, and in doing so, make Calgary a better place to live, work and grow a business.

The Chamber is now seeking its next CEO to build on a period of extensive modernization, which has positioned the organization as a leader in the space nationally and internationally. This is an exciting, dynamic, and demanding role which is responsible for continuing the innovation required to ensure the Chamber remains at the leading edge of a rapidly changing business environment and a challenging political landscape. As such we are seeking a creative, visionary leader with the ability to manage innovation and bring exciting ideas to market. Ultimately the CEO is accountable to its members and will need to build upon the Chamber’s existing services and find new and innovative ways to drive value to that membership.

The Chamber exists because of members like you. We exist to make your business more successful and we want your input on this process. Here are the answers to a few questions we think you might have:

When does Adam Legge finish at the Chamber?

  • Adam’s final day is December 22. He’s leaving after 7 great years to lead a new initiative at the Haskayne School of Business.

How long will it take to find a new CEO?

  • Because the organization is in such a strong place, the Chamber can take the time to really conduct a search process correctly; soliciting input from members and the community, and searching far and wide for the best person.
  • In the world of community-based not-for-profit organizations, these searches typically take some time. Often a year. We’ve decided to do it at a very aggressive pace, however it will still be several months before a new CEO will be announced.
  • The next milestone will be Feb 11th 2018 when submissions for the position will close.

What’s going to happen between now and the new CEO joining?

  • The state of the Chamber is strong, with an excellent leadership team, solid financials, growing membership base and a great battery of programs and services.
  • Delivery of all the value you have come to expect as a member will continue unimpeded over this time – an ambitious plan of 2018 activities is already in place.

How can I provide input to the process?

  • The Board of Directors of the Chamber and the search firm leading this search, Pekarsky & Co., are very interested in your input. If you have any specific suggestions, thoughts or ideas about the competencies you feel should be sought in the next CEO kindly send an email to The search firm will review all submissions and work to ensure your voice is heard.

How was Pekarsky & Co selected as the search firm?

  • All Chamber member search firms were invited to respond to an RFP for the search. Pekarsky and Co was the successful applicant through this process.
