The coming legalization of cannabis in Canada brings questions, challenges, and opportunities as this industry is adopted. During the Cannabis Canada Forum, the Calgary Chamber will be hosting a discussion on the business case around cannabis and the economic impact to the province.

The lunch will include opening remarks from the Alberta Government, followed by two panels:

[Part 1] President’s Panel: The opportunities and challenges facing a new industry
The President’s panel will focus on the industry behind cannabis and the businesses looking to grow and profit in the industry. Learn how they are pitching to consumers, moving their product to market, and building infrastructure to handle growing demand.

[Part 2] Legislative Landscape: Ministerial and Municipal Update
The Legislative Landscape will focus more on the legal side of the industry. Centered on public and workplace safety, the panel will deliver updates on the legalization roll out, and potential mandates for government levels and public safety concerns.

About Minister of Finance Joe Ceci

Known as one of Alberta’s most effective municipal leaders, Joe served as a City of Calgary alderman for 15 years where he was Vice-Chair of the Finance Committee and Chair of Community Protective Services, among other senior responsibilities. At city hall, he was widely admired for his ability to bring diverse coalitions together, and for his ongoing commitment to build Calgary’s social and economic infrastructure.

On May 5, 2015, Joe was elected to the Legislative Assembly representing Calgary-Fort and was later appointed to serve as President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Finance.

About Bruce Linton

About Cam Battley

Cam Battley is Executive Vice President at Aurora Cannabis, a producer of medical cannabis and cannabis oils under license from Health Canada. He is responsible for business development, external communications, investor relations, government relations, and medical and patient stakeholders. Cam is also a member of the Board of Directors of Cannabis Canada, the trade association of Licensed Producers, and Chair of the Advocacy Committee for the Association. He previously served as Vice President for licensed producer Bedrocan Canada. With a background as a health sector management consultant, he combines experience in government, health care NGOs, and the biopharmaceutical industries.

About Jay Wilgar

About Matt Zabloski

Matt Zabloski has worked with the City of Calgary for the past 8 years. During this time he has worked as a Planner with Planning and Development and as an Executive Advisor in Calgary Community Standards. In his current role as a Business Strategist with Community Standards he is the project lead responsible for coordinating The City’s response to the legalization of cannabis. He has also served as a member of the Technical Advisory Group for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ response to cannabis legalization.

About Kim Capstick

Kim Capstick is the Executive Director of Outreach and Engagement for the Alberta Cannabis Secretariat. She has been with the Secretariat since Day One, helping to recruit and establish the team that would take on the unprecedented work of creating a system for legalized cannabis in Alberta. Kim has a lead role in developing the policies and elements of this system, and also leads the engagement process, which saw more than 60,000 people share their views about legalized cannabis — one of the largest responses in Alberta government history.

About Dave Berry

As Vice President of Regulatory Services for the Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission (AGLC), Dave is responsible for all provincially regulated gaming, liquor and cannabis activities throughout the Province. This includes regulatory oversight of over 13,000 charities, 5,000+ registered gaming workers, 27 gaming properties and over 8,000 liquor licensees. With the additional role of cannabis, the Regulatory Services Division has over 300 staff in five offices responsible for licensing, inspections, background checks, audit, mandatory staff training programs, and criminal/provincial investigations with respect to illegal gaming, tobacco, and cannabis retailer offences. Prior to joining the AGLC, Dave had a 26 year career as a police officer with the Edmonton Police Service.
