Calgary Chamber encourages continued focus on economy following election

Calgary, AB, April 29, 2025 – The Calgary Chamber of Commerce congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada on their election victory last night. With this election dominated by a focus on the economy, Canadians have been clear: we need disciplined leadership to strengthen our competitiveness, grow the economy and build lasting prosperity for all Canadians.

“This election marks a pivotal moment for Canada. As Canadians have navigated tariffs, geopolitical uncertainty and persistent economic challenges over the past several months, one thing is clear: growing our economy for the benefit of all Canadians remains the top priority,” says Deborah Yedlin, President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. “This is Canada’s moment. The incoming federal government must seize this generational opportunity to rebuild the foundations of a competitive, productive and prosperous country. That means leaning into Alberta’s natural resources as national economic drivers, reducing barriers to development, investing in trade enabling infrastructure and diversifying trade beyond the United States.”

We look forward to working with a new government as it set its agenda, and in particular, are eager to advance several of the key priorities and commitments made by the Liberal Party of Canada during the election, including:

“This is a moment for bold leadership and coordinated action. With a new mandate in place, the federal government has a time-bound opportunity to strengthen Canada’s economic foundations, reinforce our global position and deliver tangible results for Canadians,” says Yedlin. “The business community remains committed to working with government to unlock our full potential, accelerate national projects and build a more competitive and productive economy for all Canadians.”

As the voice of Calgary’s business community, we – alongside our members – look forward to working with the next government to advance Canada’s economic future. We also congratulate all candidates from all parties who participated in the democratic process. Your engagement and concern for our collective future makes us all stronger.
